The origin of Favre-Leuba goes back several centuries when it was started by Abraham Favre in 1737. Later in 1815, the Favre family joined forces with Auguste Leuba and became what we know as Favre-Leuba today. The company was very forward-looking and had shown interest in expanding outside of Switzerland from its early days. By the mid-1850s, the company was operating in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. It continued to produce quality Swiss watches for its international customers until the Quartz Crisis hit the Swiss watchmaking industry in the 1970s.

Different variations of the Sea Chief model were produced, but the practicality of the hack mechanism and quick-set date make this example a nifty daily watch. While the case measures at 35mm, the thin bezel with the unobstructed silver sunburst dial design and tall indexes give the watch a prominent presence on the wrist.
